Half of adults had at least EUR 5,000 in their bank accounts last year
The median value of bank deposits among the adult population was approximately EUR 5,000 at the end of last year, Statistics Finland reports.
The information is included in the statistics on households’ assets. For the first time, the statistics are based on Financial Stability Authority (FFSA) data on depositors and deposits. FFSA maintains a deposit guarantee scheme in Finland.
The median deposit describes how much the middle person has when people are sorted in order from smallest to largest in terms of their deposits. In other words, half of the adult population had at least EUR 5,000 in their accounts.
The deposit guarantee scheme protects deposits up to EUR 100,00
Deposits are always protected up to EUR 100,000 per depositor and per bank because they are covered by a statutory deposit guarantee scheme. If a bank’s operations were to cease due to bankruptcy, the FFSA would be able to automatically pay deposit insurance compensation to depositors within seven business days.
